Cebu town intensifies Greenin PH Program

CEBU CITY October 10 (PIA) -- San Remegio town in the northern part of Cebu has doubled its effort in the implementation of the Greenin Philippines program, which supports the government's National Greening Program.
Around 1,928 participants composed of municipal officials, employees, barangay leaders, the academe, and local police personnel joined the tree planting activity undertaken by the Cebu Provincial government through its Expanded Greening and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (EGwen) Program.
San Remegio Mayor Jay Olivar together with its municipal employees organized a 3-kilometer Run 2 Plant from the Municipal Building to its planting site to mark the tree planting activity.
San Remegio has a 3.50 has. land parcel at Barangay Kayam utilized as a tree planting site where various types of seedlings were planted mostly composed of Tugas, Mahogany, Nymph tree, Gemelina, Bagtikan, and a range of fruit trees.
Municipal Information officer Venicio Dajuya said that “due to the activity, the town was able to plant 17, 830 seedlings composed of various tree species and fruit trees of various types.”
Dajuya also added that aside from this run to plant activity of the municipality, San Remegio is also participated in the activities organized by the province of Cebu geared towards conservation of natural resources for future generation as well as in the fight against global warming.
“Aside from the tree planting in Barangay Kayam, the 27 barangays of San Remegio, the academe, and the PNP personnel also joined the synchronize Run 2 Plant activities province wide,” Dajuya declared.
As of June 2012, San Remegio was able to utilize 10.703 has. of land planted with various types of tree species and fruit trees. (FCR/AYS/PIA-7, CEBU)
