PhilHealth supports Elderly Filipino Week
By Hazel F. Gloria

CEBU CITY, October 10 (PIA) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in Region 7 organized a day of leisure and fun on October 5 for beneficiaries of its Coalition of Services for the Elderly (COSE) at the conference hall of the Redemptorist Parish Church, Cebu City.

The event is in celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week done every first week of October.

COSE is a non-government organization that works with poor older persons in urban and rural areas in the Philippines.

It initiates community based programs among the elderly poor wherein older people care for each other’s health, advocacy, social, economic, funding, counseling and organizing needs.

In Cebu City, COSE partnered with the elderly of Redemptorist Parish through their group Redemptorist Elderly Alliance.

PhilHealth employees serenaded the 59 elderly individuals and entertained them with fun games and hearty snacks. Not to be outdone, a few of the elderly also showcased their singing prowess to the delight of everyone.

In the spirit of giving, PhilHealth also prepared bags of goods for members of Redemptorist Elderly Alliance, including those who were not able to join the activity due to their feeble condition.

PhilHealth also took the opportunity to inform and educate COSE members on PhilHealth’s programs, especially for qualified senior citizens—the Lifetime Member Program.

PhilHealth shared that the Lifetime Member Program is for all senior citizens who have retired from employment and have contributed at least 10 years worth of premium to PhilHealth. (PIA-7/Philhealth)
