CEBU CITY, Sept. 5 (PIA) -- Cebu City is the third stop for the nationwide initiative of the US Embassy to feature “America in 3D,” to further promote a deeper understanding of the American culture and deepen the relations between the Philippines and the US.

Slated on September 16-18, the 3D experience will witness musical and dance performances of American genres such as country music, Broadway, blues, hip hop and contemporary hits, according to a press statement from the US Embassy.

Apart from its entertainment numbers, the event will likewise highlight American values, culture as well as the services the US is giving the country, it is said.

US Embassy Information Officer Yolly de Guzman said the 3D experience will also allow Cebuanas to meet and interact with the representatives of the various sections of the US Embassy including the Visa section, Department of Veterans Affairs, United States Agency for International Development, Foreign Agricultural Service, Peace Corps, US Commercial Service and the Philippine-American Educational Foundation.

“There will be free samplings of American food and queries on how to apply for a US visa and how to study in the US will be entertained,” De Guzman bared.

Two US companies ---- Lexmark and Accenture --- will also exploit the event to accept resumes from applicants for career opportunities in their companies.

“America in 3D” has already been to Quezon City last March followed by Baguio City last July. (PIA-Cebu)

Cebu PIOs launch their weekly radio program
to promote best practices among LGUs
 by Fayette C. Riñen

CEBU CITY, Sept. 4 (PIA) -- Public information officers of the various local government units (LGUs) in Cebu dubbed the Cebu Association of City and Municipal Public Information Officers (CAOCAMPIO) launched their weekly radio program called ”Ang Atong Syudad ug Lungsod Karon” last Saturday morning, September 3 to promote best governance practices among LGUs.

CAOCAMPIO President Carlo Dugaduga of Cebu City and former chairman of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster sa Pilipinas said the regular radio program over Bantay Radyo or DYDD-AM has the basic aim to feature the best practices of the respective city and municipality here and how these best practices helped alleviate the socio-economic condition of the people.

Dugaduga further said that information is very vital in this fast-paced technological age but that LGUs and its stakeholders should bother a lot in defining in their own terms on how governance and social justice are being done rather than allow mainstream media to define executive and legislative engagement to our people.

“We believe that this project is very substantive, timely and appropriate because of its essence and impact to inform and update the people on how respective local chief executives are working for public interests,” according to Dugaduga.

The maiden radio program last Saturday initially tackled the issue on violence against women and children and RA 9262 where the main resource persons come from a non-government organization Share-A-Child-Movement and CLEANSE.

For its second airing this coming Saturday however, all CAOCAMPIO members will be present to familiarize with the style and format of the program while the start of the featured LGU begins on the third week of this month.

“The guest of the featured LGU may be the mayor or anybody assigned by the mayor to talk about good local practices and any other events or activities undertaken by the LGU,” Dugaduga said.

To sustain the radio program, the group is asking their respective LGUs for financial assistance based on a certain amount that is good for one year already. So far, Cebu City and the Municipality of Borbon have already committed in giving out financial aid for the project while other LGUs through their PIOs also gave positive feedback.

Dugaduga serves as the host of the one-hour radio program from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon every Saturday together with the PIO of the featured LGU, this is learned.

The Philippine Information Agency -7 and the Cebu Infocen meanwhile, are also helping out the group as secretariat while the program also serves as a venue for the latter to do news feeds on developmental programs of national government agencies. (PIA-Cebu)
