Gov't, civil society ink agreement on crusade against human trafficking in Cebu

CEBU CITY August 28 (PIA) -- Fifteen government agencies and 14 private organizations signed a memorandum of agreement recently to mark their full support on the crusade against human trafficking in Cebu Province and to effectively implement the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 or RA-9208.

No less than the governor of Cebu Gwendolyn Garcia that led the signing of the agreement and it was in September 2010 when the province established the Cebu Task Force Against Trafficking that was also supported by the various local government units here. 

All sectors believed that the best key to halt human trafficking is through the active teamwork among government, private sectors and the communities.

The government agencies that pledged support against human trafficking are; the Regional State Prosecutor, Department of Tourism (DOT), DSWD, DOLE, POEA, BID, Maritime Industry Authority, NBI, Police Regional Office, CIDG, Cebu Philippine Coastguard, Regional Maritime Office, PPA, Cebu Port Authority (CPA) and the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA). 

Private agencies and organizations that swore to exert effort on the same endeavor are; the Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc., International Justice Mission, Mactan Airline Operators Council, Visayan Association of Ferry Boat and Coastwise Service Operation, Aboitiz Transport System, Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu, Cebu Association of Tour Operators, Cebu Travel and Tours Association, United Trampers Association of the Philippines, National Association of Independent Travel Agencies, Inc., Metro Cebu Taxi Operators’ Association, Cebu Provincial Bus Operators’ Association, Cebu Provincial Mini Bus Operators’ Association and Universal Integrated Porters’ Association of Cebu. 

Garcia expressed gratitude to these sectors that showed willingness to put an end to cases of human trafficking in the Province of Cebu. (PIA-Cebu/mbcn/as)

RAFI Micro-finance conducts team workshop for bookkeepers

CEBU CITY, August 27 (PIA) – The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. micro-finance unit conducted a team workshop for the bookkeepers at the Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center , Lopez Jaena St , Cebu City recently.

RAFI Micro-finance training officer May Donnavel Libron said, the seminar workshop provided tips and featured activities on how to face situations in work and life.

Conducted in a fun and insightful manner, the workshop also gave insights and structured learning exercises on work values, values clarification and team interdependence.

“The seminar is actually an eye-opener for us. If all of us will practice what we learned from this seminar, then I think we can give more than our best for the betterment of the organization,” Susa Cardino, accounts receivable reconciling clerk, said.

The participants also learned concepts and principles of collaboration and thinking win-win to come up with ideas to address the bigger picture.

“One activity that made me see is that one needs to look first into herself to check if what she is doing is contributing to the achievement of team goals,” Cardino added.
