By Hazel F. Gloria

CEBU CITY, Aug 2 (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Visayas conducted a two-day regional management conference at the Days Hotel, A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City from August 1 to 2 with key DENR officials to thresh out critical environmental issues and concerns in region 7.

DENR-7 regional executive director Dr. Isabelo Montejo said the conference is a regular undertaking to discuss and present status of accomplishments on the various banner and priority programs and projects implemented in the region.

Attended by more than 50 officials including provincial and community environment and natural resources officers in four provinces and regional directors of Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), the activity monitored the level of implementation on cadastral survey project and National Greening Program (NGP).

“These projects (NGP and cadastral survey) which have been significantly done in the field need to be assessed as DENR Secretary Ramon JP Paje has been tracking them and so that we would be able to draw important interventions for more successful execution,” he added.

In an effort to fast track the disposition of land or forestry related cases, Montejo instructed the legal division chief to facilitate the issuance of resolution or decision so as to move these cases in a speedy manner without compromising the integrity of the investigation procedures.

More than 100 cases are set to be decided or acted before December 2012 by the legal division.

In an executive committee meeting recently, Montejo issued a memorandum to all provincial environment and natural resources officers (PENROs) to act with reasonable speed on all official papers or documents to unburden the transacting public with unnecessary delay.

Montejo said, he is calling for a consultative meeting on August 3 with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) officials and a contractor on the widening project along Natalio Bacalso Carcar-Naga Road which may affect century-old acacia trees. (mbcn/fhg/PIA-7 & DENR-7)
