Cebu observes Disaster Consciousness Month
By Fayette C. Riñen

CEBU CITY, July 2 (PIA) -- A motorcade will kick off the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month in Cebu tomorrow led by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 7 as chair of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Council (RDRRMC) in Central Visayas.

Members of the RDRRMC 7 will join the motorcade at 9 a.m. tomorrow to drumbeat awareness on the annual observance.

Prior to the motorcade, a holy mass at 6:30 a.m. will be held at the St. Ignacio’s Chapel inside the premises of the Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.

RDRRMC 7 Chairperson Minda Morante, who is also the regional director of OCD 7, urged every sector to actively participate in disaster preparedness and remain vigilant amid the onset of the rainy season.

The celebration comes at a time when a low pressure area (LPA) is currently spotted east of Mindanao that will affect the Visayas Region including Cebu.

PAGASA Mactan has alerted the public that the LPA would continue to bring widespread rains this week as the Cebu City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council urged residents living in landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant at all times.(FCR-PIA7 Cebu)
