DTI warns vs overpricing of Christmas food productsConsumers advised to check labels on exact weight and expiry dates

CEBU CITY, Dec 19 (PIA) -- Overpricing of Noche Buena products will be dealt with accordingly, warned the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as it advised buyers to carefully check labels of Christmas food products.
DTI recently released a Holiday Supplement dated Dec. 4, 2012 bearing suggested retail prices of popular food products served during the traditional Noche Buena.
These include prices of hams and ingredients for pastas and salads.
For hams, one kilo of all types of hams ranged from P185 as the cheapest price to P804.75 as the highest.
Purefoods Jamon de Bola, 1 kilo, is priced P317 and Fiesta cooked ham, P493.
The prices of King Sue Ham and Sausage Co. Inc. 1-kilogram hams are: Hawaiian, P222; Cooked Sweet Ham, P360; Smoked Pina Style Cooked Ham, P410.
On the other hand, for Visayas and Mindanao, the cheapest Swift Ham is the Noche Buena with P199 per kilo; Swift’s Jamon de bola, P322.50; Festival Ham, P514; Deboned Ham, P571.25 and the most expensive is Swift Bone in Ham, P804.75.
The prices of cheese range from P38 to P52 for every 200 grams; Ques-O Cheese Food costs P38.80; Che-Vital Cheese Food, P52; and Che-Vital Quickmelt at P54.75.
Kraft Cheddar Cheese costs P65.25 and Eden Original at P40.50 for every 180 grams of cheese.
Prices of Lady’s Choice and Best Food Mayonnaise 220 milligram size range from P40 to P83.50.
For fruit cocktail salads, three kilogram can of Del Monte Fruit Cocktail in Heavy Syrup is priced at P194; Today’s Mixed Fruit Stock is P164; Dole Tropical Fruit Cocktail, P197; and Seasons Tropical Fruit Mix is P161.50.
For Queso de bola, prices range from P132 to P340.
For spaghetti/pasta products, the prices for one kilo are: Sunshine Spaghetti, P61.50; Ideal Gourmet Spaghetti, P89; Del Monte, P102;and Knorr Royal Spaghetti P102.
Elbow and salad macaroni prices: Del Monte, P119; Fiesta, P79; Ideal Elbow, P99.75 and Sunshine Elbow Macaroni at P68.50 for every kilogram pack.
A pack of 200 grams spaghetti sauce ranges from P14-P18.
Creams packed in 250 milligrams are priced P37.50 for Alska Crema and P44 for Nestle All Purpose Cream.
For milk, condensed milk will not go beyond P50 and evaporated milk not beyond P34.75.
Furthermore, DTI advised the consumers to check on the labels for expiray dates and exact weight. (rmn/FCC/PIA7)

Cebu stakeholders to gather for planning workshop on sustainable city, region

CEBU CITY, Dec 19 (PIA) -- Stakeholders from different sectors in Cebu City will gather for a Mega Cebu Communications Planning Workshop headed by the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) Research Program and Organizations Development (RPOD) with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI).
The activity is designed to formulate and realize the vision, brand and planning process of making Mega Cebu a smart, inclusive and sustainable city.
The workshop will be held on December 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the RAFI–Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center in Cebu City.
Participants are representatives from the government, private, business and the private/civil society sectors.
The communications planning workshop also aims to get the views and suggestions from the identified representatives of stakeholders towards Mega Cebu’s communication campaign.
It will also identify and define the intent of communication and the message to the official stakeholders, as well as the means and strategies necessary to inform and educate the Mega Cebu’s stakeholders on the principles and vision of the program. (RMN/AYS-PIA-7 Cebu with RAFI PR)
