By Hazel F. Gloria
CEBU CITY, June 5 (PIA) --- PhilHealth Region 7 hired 31 registered nurses who attended a comprehensive training on PhilHealth policies and programs so as to effectively assist PhilHealth members regarding their membership, especially in availing of benefits and filing of benefit claims in PhilHealth accredited hospitals.
After a month of deployment, the registered nurses hired under the PhilHealth Customer Assistance, Relations, and Empowerment Staff (CARES) Project have facilitated a number of members’ concerns as they availed of their benefits in hospitals.
The primary objective of the PhilHealth CARES project is to entertain the concerns of the members and empower them by providing essential information on benefits, membership, eligibility, accreditation process, and other PhilHealth-related concerns.
Some of these nurses are permanently deployed while others go on a weekly or monthly rotation in hospitals.
They are also equipped to educate members on the importance of commitment to the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Program and to conduct surveys and studies developed by PhilHealth.
Currently, the PhilHealth CARES attend to members in 23 hospitals in Cebu province and in seven hospitals both in Bohol and Oriental Negros.(HFG-PIA 7/PhilHealth)

Smooth turn-out in 1st day of class in C. Visayas, Dep Ed 7 says
By Juju Manubag-Empuerto
CEBU CITY, June 5 (PIA) -- The Department of Education (DepEd) 7 said that the first day of classes today in public schools went smoothly in Central Visayas.
Eda S. Cabantan, head of the Regional Oplan Balik Eskwela Action Center of DepEd 7, told PIA-Cebu that except for two complaints that were brought to her attention and which were immediately addressed, all was very orderly as students in all public levels attended their first day of class.
Cabantan said the first complaint was from a parent of a grade three male student from Tejero Elementary School in Cebu City who said that her son was bullied and that the boy does not want to go back to the said school but wants to study at the Mabolo Elementary School instead. The parent was advised by Cabantan to go to Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, Cebu City Division School Superintendent for their specific request.
Cabantan also received a request for assistance from Minglanilla Central School regarding 20 students who were not able to enroll as they were allegedly asked for “amotan” or donations. The DepEd 7 official advised the students to go directly to the school principal in case they encounter this kind of situation.
Per DepEd Order no. 41 series of 2012, Education Secretary Armin Luistro has directed all school officials that no fees shall be collected from school children in kindergarten up to Grade 4 anytime during the school year 2012-2013. There will also be no collection from June to July 2012 for Grade 5 pupils up to fourth year high school students in the same memo order.
However, beginning August 2012 until the end of school year 2013, the following fees may be collected on a voluntary basis: Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts membership fees of P50 per learner; Philippine National Red Cross, P35 per learner; Anti-TB fund drive of P5 per learner; school publication fee of P60 for every elementary pupils; and P90 for every high school student. The Parents-Teachers Association fee must be reasonable and is to be determined during the PTA general assembly.
The PTA can only collect contributions starting August and only after presenting to the PTA members and to the school head/principal a report on the utilization of previous school year’s collections and the school year 2012's proposed budget with program of activities.
Cabantan, on the other hand, bared that each school division has an Oplan Balik Eskwela Action Center where the parents, guardians, and students can go for any assistance they need.
The regional office of DepEd 7 has one center headed by Cabantan, chief of the Administrative Division.(FCR/JSME/PIA 7-Cebu)
