CEBU CITY, June 1 (PIA) -- Crime prevention tips for students especially those who are not from here but will serve as guide to help them be safe are bring fine-tuned by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.
P/Supt. Audie Villacin of the Regional Investigative and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) of PRO 7 said the crime tips are being finalized and will be printed within this week for distribution.
“Before the start of the school year, we already have these crime tips for students ready. But then, we also review in case there are tips or helpful information that needed to be added for the students’ safety,” Villacin said.
Villacin said they will post these crime tips in dormitories in downtown Cebu or in areas where there are a number of rented spaces for out-of-town students. These crime prevention tips will also be distributed in schools especially in areas where a lot of crimes happen, he added.
“There are a lot of students in Cebu that come from other provinces. They are the ones usually being victimized by snatchers or thieves,” Villacin bared.
Villacin said police visibility will be heightened in nearby school premises to prevent students from becoming victims to snatchers and thieves.
“Included in the crime prevention tips to students is a warning not to use their cell phones inside public jeepneys. Cell phone is a very hot item for snatchers because this can easily be dispose of,” revealed Villacin.
With college universities and educational institutions here set to open on June 13, police are also campaigning against joining fraternity wars and conduct dialogues with frat groups to prevent youth-related violence.
“We will also be asking students to call the police through our hotline numbers in case they need police assistance. Also, to report to us the response time of the police,” the police official added.
Villacin said they want to carry the message across that Cebu is a safe place to study. “Let us help each other make our community safe and secure,” stressed the police official. (FCR-PIA 7, Cebu)
