CEBU CITY May 15 (PIA) -- Some 200 elementary and secondary public school administrators and secondary school Science, Mathematics, and English teachers will undergo various training programs from May 14 to 26 at Indah Hotel, Villegas St. (formerly Arroceros), Manila.
The training aims to prepare each school and for the improvement of the mentors who will handle the K to12 program, said Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” R. Tañada III, who sponsored the Summer 2012 Training Programs, in partnership with the Philippine Normal University (PNU).
“We hold this training every summer, but this year’s program includes efficiency enhancement modules targeting school administrators for the new K12 system. This will serve as our humble contribution to prepare our schools for the demands of the K12 program and to further improve the teaching capabilities of our mentors," Tañada said.
“Kindergarten and the 12 years of elementary and secondary education,” or K to 12 is the Department of Education’s new scholastic curricula for the Primary and Secondary education of Public Schools where an additional two more years is added before students can proceed to college.
“The goal of the K-12 is to provide a good quality 12-year basic education program that each Filipino student rightly deserves. The program does not only add two more years of education, it is more geared at enhancing the basic education curriculum of the country. And this initiative is our way of ensuring that this goal is achieved. After all, aside from providing free elementary and secondary education, we should also ensure quality mentoring and knowledge transfer as well. The best way to do that is to invest on our educators,” Tañada clarified.
He added that it is very important for teachers and school administrators to keep posted with the new methods and principles of teachings for them to be more effective in teaching the new generation of youths.
“It is of crucial importance that teachers and school administrators be updated with the latest methods and practices of teaching. I also believe that their professions should be maximized and used for awakening nationalism and human rights awareness among their students, which is why those themes are incorporated in a one-day workshop within the training days,” the Deputy Speaker continued.
For Public School Administrators who are attending, the theme of their training will be Academic Leadership Quality: Meeting Challenges in the Implementation of the K-12 Curriculum, while the theme for the Teachers will be Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills: Key to Economic Sustainability and Progress.
