CEBU CITY, May 25 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue - Revenue District Office (BIR-RDO) No. 13 based in Cebu City earlier this week ordered the closure of an establishment for failure to issue official receipts which says a lot that government is serious in going after tax cheats.
Last May 22, BIR Revenue District Officer Atty. Evangeline S. Abanilla led the RDO No. 80 team of Mandaue City in padlocking the Value Plus Shopaholic, a one-stop shop premium boutique located at Hernan Cortes Street under its Oplan Kandado Program.
The closure order was signed by BIR Deputy Commissioner Nelson Aspe, Operations Group.
The BIR here has yet to account for the total amount of taxes the establishment owes the government.
The successful operation was participated by BIR-RDO NO. 13 Assistant Division Chief Atty. Neri Yu and Atty. Jose Hector Baronda of the Legal Division, TAU Head Queenie Luz Auditor, Assistant Revenue District Officer Carolina Carcallas, Assessment Section Chief Cesar Padilla, group supervisors and revenue officers of RDO No. 80, and members of the Mandaue City Police Office.
BIR-RDO 13 Regional Director Rodita Galanto previously urged the public to help government in its relentless efforts to go after tax violators by reporting to their office the non-issuance of official receipts by commercial establishments.
Galanto said taxes are the lifeblood of the nation and that the more taxes collected, the more government can allocate funding for social services to benefit the people particularly the poor. (PIA-Cebu with BIR PR)
