CEBU CITY, March 13 (PIA) -- The Mandaue City Government through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is conducting “employment coaching” to graduating students of public national high schools in the city to prepare them for employment in case they cannot proceed to college due to lack of money.
Last week, 374 graduating students including 53 from night school of Canduman National High School, gathered at the school’s open court for the “employment coaching” session.
The session includes a lecture from the PESO on available job vacancies, labor standards from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and illegal recruitment from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
“This serves as a motivation for high school graduates and undergraduates that there are bright opportunities that await them,” said Musoline Suliva, head of PESO-Mandaue.
Rheaflor Ylanan, a MAPE teacher of Canduman National High School said this is a good chance for their graduates to look for opportunities.
Ylanan who graduated with honors as a working student said poverty should not be a hindrance to getting a degree.
“Working is one alternative since I am not sure if my parents can send me to college,” said 16-year old student Naicy Mae Flores whose father is a trisikad driver and her mother a saleslady in a mall.
Canduman National High School Principal Dr. Mercy Demoral however, said that since the students are still under-age and cannot work yet “they can take technical skills for free at the Mandaue City College.”
The project, implemented in coordination with the DOLE and the POEA, was conceived by the city government in consideration that many might not be able to continue to college due to poverty. (PIA-Cebu with PR from Mandaue News Service)
