MGB-7 warns areas for possible flooding

CEBU CITY, October 11 (PIA) --- Mines and Geosciences Bureau-7 Regional Director Loreto Alburo reminded residents in low lying areas and mountainous terrain against possible episodes of flooding and landslides as tropical depression “Ramon” accelerates bringing more rains.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Ramon" was estimated at 245 kilometers (km) east of Hinatuan as of 10:00 a.m. with maximum winds of 55 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center. It is forecasted to move West Northwest at 17 kph.
“Tropical depression “Ramon” is expected to be at 30 kilometer North of Hinatuan, Surigal del Sur by tomorrow morning at 30 kilometer South of Romblon by Thursday morning. By Friday morning, it will be at 120 kilometer of Southwest of Iba, Zambales,” it said.
He also urged communities near the riverbanks to be cautious and vigilant as heavy rain is expected as tropical depression “Ramon” continues to gain strength..
“Landslides and flooding incidence are triggered by prolonged and heavy rain aside from other geologic factors,” he said.
“It is very important that local government officials should revisit the reports on critical areas that are found to be highly vulnerable to flooding and landslides as indicated in the geohazards threat advisory issued to them,” Alburo added.
In Cebu City, 19 barangays are highly susceptible landslides, namely, Lusaran, Binaliw, Guba, Budlaan, Malubog, Buot-Taup, Busay, Sirao, Taptap, Tagbao, Tabunan, Pung-ol Sibugay,Sudlon II, Sudlon I, Sinsin, Buhisan, Pamutan, Sapangdaku, and Adlaon.
Barangays Tagjaguimit, Alpaco, Balirong, Mayana, Naalad, and Cogon in City of Naga.; 11 barangays in Balamban: Hingatmonan, Lamesa, Luca, Ginatilan, Cabasiangan, Matun-og, Cansomoroy, Gaas, Magsaysay, Cabagdalan, and Duangan are also identified as landslide prone.
Five barangays in Toledo City: Tungkay, Pangamihan, Bagacay, Loay and Don Andres Soriano; Lamac in Pinamungahan and five barangays in Asturias:Agbanga, Baye, Bairan, Kanluangan and Sak-sak are also landslide prone.
Twelve barangays in Catmon: Amancion, Anapog, Bactas, Bongyas, ambangkaya, Cabungaan, Can-ibuang, Duyan, Ginabucan, Panalipan, Tabili and Tinabyonan); all mountain barangays in Talisay City; Brgy. Doldol, Purok 3 in Dumanjug; and Cansalonoy in Ronda have also been identified as highly susceptible to landslides.
Alburo said the assessment reveals that there are five barangays in Cebu City that are considered to be most hazardous to flooding and these are Kasambagan, Kinasang-an, Labangon, Mabolo, and Bonbon; and seven barangays in Mandaue City to include Subangdaku, Mantuyong, Umapad, Opao, Alang-alang, Guizo, and Pakna-an.(PIA-7/HFG/DENR-7)

Sogod LGU takes steps as typhoon “Ramon”

CEBU CITY, Oct. 11 (PIA) -- Amid PAGASA forecast that typhoon “Ramon” will hit northern Cebu tomorrow night, local officials of Sogod convened for a meeting to ensure that preparations are in place to mitigate the impact of the storm.
In its 11:00 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA forecast stated that the typhoon was likely to be 60 kilometers north of Cebu City by tomorrow night which pointed to the specific direction of the Municipality of Sogod located 60.5 kms. north of Cebu City.
Mayor Moonyeen Durano called for a meeting for all department heads and other concerned agencies to step up its preparations as typhoon “Ramon” is expected to bring heavy rains with possible landslides and flashfloods, according to Michael Peter Erivera, the municipal information officer of Sogod. The meeting just concluded at almost 2:00 p.m. today.
But Erivera said as of 2:00 p.m. today, minimal rains with no packed winds have been observed but the weather is extremely gloomy
Erivera said all the barangays have been notified about the latest weather disturbance especially those located in landslide prone areas. Sogod has 18 barangays and the terrain of the town is generally rolling and becomes hilly along the mountain side.
“Health officials and workers are duly assembled and the AFP-Philippine Army’s 78th IB is also on standby to lend assistance anytime,” Erivera bared.
All public schools in the town are identified as evacuation centers in case residents in danger-prone areas need to be evacuated, this is learned.
According to PAGASA, typhoon “Ramon” has maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and is moving west northwest at 17 kph and is expected to hit Bantayan Island, also in northern Cebu by Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the cities of Cebu and Mandaue have also prepared amidst the warning that heavy downpour of rains are highly likely that would result to massive flooding. (PIA-Cebu)
