DOST accepts applications for S&T Scholarship Programs

CEBU CITY, September 17 (PIA) --- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Science Education Institute (SEI) is now accepting applications to its S&T Scholarship Programs for S.Y. 2012-2013.

These scholarship programs are the Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994 (Program A) and the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program (Program B).

Both education grants are open to graduating high school students who wish to pursue baccalaureate degree programs in the priority fields of study in the sciences, mathematics and engineering.

RA 7687 provides scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status does not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators whose annual family income is P165,000.00 and below.

Merit scholars pursue priority courses in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied science and science and mathematics at identified universities with higher annual family income.

All applicants, however, must belong to the upper 5% of the graduating class or a member of the graduating class of a DOST-SEI identified or DepEd recognized science high school, as certified by the school principal.

They must not have taken any college or post-secondary course/units and have not taken any DOST-SEI scholarship examination.

Must be Filipino citizens with no pending application for immigration abroad, must be physically and mentally healthy and morally upright and must be bonafide residents of a local municipality for the past 4 years.

Qualified students must submit the following; two (2) recent and identical 1x1 ID pictures, a photocopy of their parents’ income tax return for CY 2010 or original copy of tax exemption certification from BIR if parents are non-tax filers; latest three consecutive months of electric bill for the year 2011; a clear copy of applicant’s birth certificate and the fully accomplished application form.

Applications with the requirements must be received by DOST 7 Regional Office in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City on or before October 21, 2011 (Friday). 

A non-refundable testing fee of P200.00 will be collected from Program B applicants upon submission of applications. The qualifying examination will be administered nationwide on November 20, 2011 (Sunday).

PIA conducts FGD on PSR in Cebu

CEBU CITY, September 17 (PIA) --- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will conduct a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on BIR’s Premyo sa Resibo (PSR) program on September 18, 2011, 10 a.m. at Harolds Hotel, Cebu City.

The FGD aims to find out the participants’ awareness on BIR’s Premyo sa Resibo; to determine the knowledge and perception of the participants’ about PSR and to know the factors that influence the participants’ decision in playing or not playing the PSR.

The FGD also wants to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the PSR according to the participants and to get recommendations and/or suggestions on how to improve this program.

PIA-7 invited sixteen participants to join the FGD and it is divided into two (2) groups, the non-playing audience and another group for playing audience. Each group is composed of eight (8) members, aged 18-65 years old.

The playing participants are those who have tried playing the BIR text promo, Premyo sa Resibo while the non-playing participants are those that have no experience at all in playing the PSR.(PIA7/HFG)
