DAR, NGOs inaugurates 19 classrooms in Talisay City

TALISAY CITY, September 7 (PIA) --- The Provincial Agrarian Reform Office (PARO) in Cebu and its NGO partners will inaugurate19 classrooms of Lawaan-1 Elementary and National High School located in Talisay City on September 8, 2011. 

The school building construction was a result of a public-private partnership (PPP) that will serve the 1,576 and 1,208 elementary and high school students respectively in barangay Lawaan-1 in Talisay City.

The completion of the 19 classrooms will provide decent rooms to the present 11 “room-less classes” that caused congestion in other classrooms.  

This is part of a 5-phase, 120-classroom project under the Community-based Public School Development program for an integrated elementary and national high school building.

The inception and preliminary organizational aspects of the school building construction started in January 2010.

The local school community such as parents, teachers and students in Barangay Lawaan; private partners; and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR-7) through its PARO-1  Maria Lourdes Mariano;  with Fr. Ulrich Schlecht, SDV of the Divine Word Missionaries provided expertise in project planning, community organizing and resource mobilization to address the dire conditions of the Lawaan-I Elementary and National High School.

The project is a collaboration of the key private sector partners like Perciles Dakay, President and General Manager of Dakay Construction and Development Construction and Development Corporation;  Board of Trustees of the University of San Carlos, Fr. Ulrich Schlecht, SVD; member of the Divine Word Missionary Congregation –Southern Province, Jeffrey Traya; President, Lawaan-I Public Elementary School PTA Inc. Reynold Singco;  Lawaan-I School Principal;  local government unit of Talisay City and DAR. 

The inauguration will include the awarding of plaques of recognition to key private partners of the project and  a press conference after the activity.(PIA7/mbcn/hfg & DAR-PARO/gv)
