DSWD’s Pantawid Pamilya Inks Deal with POPCOM on Responsible Parenthood
Responsible parenthood as simple as it sounds, is but a complex subject which should be approach with respect and simplicity for population to understand its utmost importance.
Last June 24, 2011 the Departmet of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program inked a partnership with Population Commission (POPCOM) by signing a Memorandum of Agreement that focuses on POPCOM taking a major role in the integration of Responsible Parenthood in the conduct of Family Development Sessions of Pantawid Pamilya Beneficiaries.
Module 5, of Pantawid Pamilya’s Family Development Sessions (FDS) focuses on responsible parenting which POPCOM is an expert of.
Technical assistance and capability trainings to DSWD’s Provincial and Municipal staff assigned to the progam are just some of the activities already undertaken by POPCOM in enhancing the conduct of FDS.
According to POPCOM Regional Director Atty. Bruce Ragas, the move of POPCOM to enhance Module 5 of Pantawid Pamilya’s FDS will have a significant impact on social development aspect on the beneficiaries as they would be educated on the importance and value of responsible parenthood and different options of family planning.
DSWD’s Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre emphasized that the Pantawid Pamilya program is for the poorest of the poor and part of the program’s design is to educate the beneficiaries and empower them. Family Development Sessions are conducted to educate the grantees, inculcating values essential for improving attitudes and creating a stable family environment taking up various topics, one of which is Responsible Parenthood.
The partnership of the two agencies is in supports of the national government’s call on social protection and poverty reduction strategies, one of which is the conduct of responsible parenting seminars with continous provisions on disseminating proper information on Family Planning method.
Pantawid Pamilya will now have proper first hand information on the correct and responsible parenting from the experts. (PR-Lariba)
