Cebu City Government joins the nation in celebrating the 113th Philippine Independence Day

CEBU CITY, June 9 (PIA) --- The Cebu City Government thru the Cultural and Historical Affairs (CHAC) joins the entire country in celebrating the 113th 
Philippine Independence Day on Sunday, June 12, 2011. 

Philippine National Police (PNP) PRO-7 Director General Ager Poblador G. Ontog, Central Command Commander Lt. Gen. Ralph Villanueva and Cebu City Police Office (CPPO) Director P/SSupt Ramon Melvin Buenafe will join the City officials, academe, members of the Association of Regional Executives National Agencies (ARENA-7), and other civic groups in commemorating the event.

This historic day will be observed with a mass and short program and the Grand Civic-Military parade that will assemble at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday at the Cebu Buisness  Park and Gorordo Avenue and officially starts at 6:00 a.m.

The parade will pass Gen. MAxilom  Avenue, Fuente Osmeña and Osmeña Blvd. and will culminate inside the Cebu City Sports  Center.

At the Sports Center participating agencies, students and other contingents will join the flag raising ceremonies; a mass and a short program. 

The Independence Day is celebrated annually by the whole nation to give tribute to our heroes and forefathers who fought for the country’s liberation from
foreign invaders.

The Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC) is one with the National Government in paying homage to the people who showed their selfless love for the Philippines by sacrificing their lives for our freedom.(PIA-7/mbcn/HFG & CHAC/Cebu City Government)

RAFI Triennial Awards to present top 5 finalists

CEBU, June 9 (PIA) --- The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. Triennial Awards for the Visayas and Mindanao is set to present the top five (5) finalists for the individuals and institutions categories of the search on June 15 at 1:30 in the afternoon, at the Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center, Lopez Jaena St., Cebu City.

RAFI launched the Triennial Awards for the Visayas and Mindanao in 1996 to give recognition to individuals and institutions who committed themselves to building a more humane, equitable and caring society. 

The awards honor the men and women who, through their efforts to bring about change and improve the lives of the less-privileged, reflect the philanthropic, humanitarian and holistic ideals and values of Don Ramon Aboitiz and Don Eduardo Aboitiz.

The RAFI Triennial Awards is conferred every three years and given in two categories, the Ramon Aboitiz Award for Exemplary Individual and the Eduardo Aboitiz Award for Outstanding Institution.

It is currently in the fifth run of the said awards program with conferment scheduled in March 2012.

After a process of nomination, screening, profiling, field validation and assessment, the independent and multi-sectoral Search Committee, composed of leaders from the public and private sectors headed by University of the Philippines in the Visayas Tacloban College Dean Margarita dela Cruz, came up with the top 5 finalists for both award categories.

The event is organized to formally present to the public the top 5 finalists for the two categories. This is an opportunity to present the finalists, their work and advocacies, as well as to share their contribution and impact in the community. (PIA-7/MBCNewman & RAFI)
